Mr & Mrs Vile's triumphant return winning the National Championship

The prizes at the Royal Highland Show were well divided amongst the exhibitors and it was a gimmer from the South West of England that conquered all to become the 2017 National Show Champion. Bred by Janet Richardson, the Rumwell gimmer was shown by Simon Norman for Mr & Mrs Vile. The March born gimmer was sired by Rumwell Mace out of a Rumwell flock ewe.

Percy Tait's successful season continued with wins in the Senior ram class, with the Randalstown tup that has been consistantly winning all season, and he was also successful with his ram lamb.  The senior ram went on to win the Male championship with William Baillie's shearling ram as runner up. William won the shearling ram class with a ram purchased at the Premier Sale in August 2016. Bred by Sally Shone, Maximum Obama was Supreme Champion at the sale. Sally Shone won the senior ewe class with the 2sh ewe which has been successfully campaigned this year, with William Baillie 2nd and Laine Daff with her prolific Scottish show winning ewe in third spot.

The gimmer class went on to produce the overall champion, Rumwell Oxlips, which was followed home by Jonny Stables homebred gimmer, sired by a Cysgod ram, but again Rumwell breeding to the fore with the dam being Rumwell Mystic Meg.

The ewe lamb class was headed by Stuart Goldie's Maunby Popstar, a February born lamb by a Perdi ram. Rachel Cruden was 2nd & 5th in this class, so all exhibitors seem to have collected a share of the prizes.

In the commercial sheep section Andrew Baillie's ewe and lamb outfit won the supreme championship and our understanding is this was a Millennium Bleu ewe.
