The Society is delighted to announce a new appointment. We welcome Ryan Wilson as the first Youth Ambassador for the breed and look forward to working with him and his new ideas for the future.
The Ballycanal Flock was established in 2011 when we purchased our first females from Sam Small’s Randalstown Flock, which provided a great foundation to grow our flock. In the previous year, we had borrowed a phenomenal tup lamb from Sam to cover cross breed ewe lambs and from that point our interest in the breed has grown and grown. We still use Bleu tups on our commercial stock to produce our own replacements and lambs which are sent directly to our local abattoir. The flock is run by myself and my Dad, Andrew alongside a small Shropshire flock. We sell much of our male and female stock privately with enquiries and visitors always welcome. Our passion is to grow the Bleu du Maine and Millennium Bleu breed in Northern Ireland by breeding and selling quality stock to new and existing breeders. My primary objective is to get more young people breeding, showing and selling Bleus. Sheep farming is only one of my interests; when I’m not on the farm I will be pursuing my career in Physiotherapy or playing rugby for Ballynahinch RFC in the All Ireland League.
