I was first introduced to Bleu du Maines in the mid 1980s when my father used a BDM to cross on his blackface sheep rather than a blue faced Leicester, he has continued with the BDM to this date. We were so pleased with the offspring of the BDM x Blackie that I then decided as a teenager to start a pedigree flock. This is where the Calla Bleu du Maine started. Over the 30 years that I have stuck with the BDM I feel the breed has improved significantly, particularly in skins and conformation. We have enjoyed many successes over the years. The first highlight was winning the Royal Highland Show in 1998. Since then we continued to enjoy showing the sheep with many successes at the RHS and the Great Yorkshire with both BDM and Millennium Bleus.
Our commitment to breeding quality sheep with both the commercial buyer and the pedigree buyers in mind has paid off for us, when it comes to the Premier sale at Carlisle we have regularly achieved top prices.
